4th of July

The 4th of July is such a fun holiday to celebrate. Nothing like fun things all day long and celebrating our wonderful country. We always start off the morning with the fireman's breakfast out in Middleton. There is always enough food on one plate to feed our whole family but we usually get a couple to support a great cause.

With our bellies stuffed, we go and claim our great shady spot right in the middle of the parade hot spot. It's so fun to be in that spot because it's by the fire station and the fire fighters and parade entrants go at it with each other with all sorts of water devices. Every year the firemen extend their huge, long ladder and hover over the street where the floats come by. They use the fire hose from the truck and saturate everything in range. As soon as the wet zone banner approaches, the war zone begins. The entrants try and outdo the firemen and vice versa. Our spot is just out of reach of getting soaked but the kids can run over if they want to get wet. We usually bring our big umbrella just in case though!

My dad and some bank employees decorated and drove the Teryx in the parade.

Makayla, Emma and my niece Casidy got to carry the "wet zone" banner to signal the start of the water battle.

After the parade we head to my mom and dads' house and cool off for a while. We set up games and usually the kids end up wet some how. We prepare fun food, talk and enjoy the afternoon. My brother, Justin's in-laws came over as well and spent the afternoon with us.

As soon as the first hint of darkness comes, we pull out the fireworks and have our own little show. The kids love to light them but I don't think any of them have has much fun as my brother, Richard. :) He's like a kid in a candy store!

I love that we are building fun, patriotic traditions for our family
and I know my kids are learning to love and appreciate the country we live in.
